My Name
My Chinese name is 王无为, and 无为 (Wuwei) comes from an ancient Chinese philosopher Lao Zi (老子, 老聃), notably in his book Tao Te Ching (Dao De Jing, 道德经). Together with Confucius (Kong Zi) the duo are the most famous and important philosophers in Chinese history. 无为 means do nothing, a philosophy similar to the "invisible hand". Lao Zi promotes the ideology that Kings and governors should do minimal and the society will strive and prosper on itself (无为而治). Quite interesting the invisible hand and the free market economics is a reflection of the philosophy embedded in my name.

Programming
I program with MATLAB and write mini programs out of interest in spare time. More to come below in attachments.
Mini Project 1: I wrote a small program in Matlab to calculate statistics of the grades for the course I teach. In one semester, when I was teaching Principles of Macroeconomics, the university conducted a survey/assessment of instructors. The survey includes questions "how many students in your class achieved each of the following learning objectives?" To answer this, instructors need to include 3 multiple choice questions in the exam that address each learning objective directly, and count the number of students and their score for each learning objective. The university test scoring and scanning center only provides grade reports for overall statistics, that's not suitable for answering the survey. So I wrote a program to calculate each student's score in each learning objective. The program is as following code: (For example, in my exam, questions 2, 7, 58 in exam version A; and questions 7,9,31 in exam version B address learning objective 1)
